People across the Atlantic talk about taking their pants off. We do here, but if I took my pants of in good ol’ Uncle Sam or Canada, I would no doubt be arrested.
I’m not mocking people over the pond but the differences in our ‘common’ language.
I find it amusing when I read books by American authors and find something like, ‘He hitched up his pants and left the room.’ Not a pleasant image; comical but not pleasant.
I suppose we’re all at fault on this one.
While I’m at it, I really don’t like the new Hollywood buzzword: comedic, as in best comedic performance. What’s wrong with a good old fashioned comic performance? I suppose that really does imply that the performance was so bad it was comical. We’ve really gone PC mad in this world.
Perhaps, I’m becoming a purist. I hope not because I love to see language develop, but when developments are associated with Hollywood, I tend to want to chunder.
